Hey crafters! Do you keep your crafting supplies in their original packages?
crafty asked:
I have a really cute spice rack with pretty little glass jars and I was thinking about putting my little craft supplies in them- things like brads, eyelets, jewels- you know, all the fun stuff. However, I’m wondering if it would actually be better to leave them in their original packages which are smaller and more compact. On the one hand, I will be able to see what I have a little better, but on the other hand, storing them in jars will take up more room. What do you think? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

I find it easier to keep them in small plastic containers. that way they’re in uniform sizes, easier to stack. ALso a lot of times the things they come in don’t necessarily reseal.
If you have the storage space for this, it sounds like a cute idea. I store mine in the originals packages because they tend to take up much less space, but I also get very frustrated going through my stuff. I tend to forget that I have things because they disappear easily in their original packages. If I had the room, I would try something like your “spice rack” idea.
I just thought of something else! I have a friend who uses empty nail polish bottles to store little tiny things like eyelets and brads. I’m not entirely sure how she cleans out the bottles- it probably helps if the polish isn’t all dried out that way it just pours out then you could clean it with water. I don’t know. I just remember I really liked the idea when I saw it. It looks really cute.
I would keep them in the original packaging just in case you are running low and want to buy the same brand and style!
I sometimes move mine into more convenient or accessible packaging, but I usually also cut out and include the part of the original pkg. with whatever brand, size, or color info I think I might want again. If you have the room, I’d definitely go with visible and accessible storage.
No. I find lots of packaging soultions that were never meant for craft supplies but which do the job for me. Put your stuff in whatever packaging takes your fancy. There are no rules.
